Discover our Heritage
Hindmarsh Shire is steeped in heritage. Traditionally owned an occupied by the Wotjobaluk Peoples, from the mid-1800s area was visited and settled by squatters, missionaries, and Chinese miners moving along the Gold Escort Route between the South Australian and Victorian goldfields. Eventually the region gained significance in the development and growth of the Victorian Wheatbelt and broadacre agriculture in Australia.
