Health and Safety Officer
Permanent Full Time (or part time as negotiated)
Salary commencing at $74,930.69p.a. (plus superannuation)
We are looking for a passionate person to join our People and Performance team to support safety initiatives and embed safety in the culture of the organisation. The Health and Safety Officer plays an important role in the ongoing improvement, implementation and associated administration of Council's Occupational Health and Safety Management System and related programs.
Being organised, personable and motivated to continually improve safety culture in the organisation will ensure that you succeed in this position. You will work with outdoor workers such as plant operators, cleaners, caravan park caretakers and lifeguards as well as indoor workers such as engineers, local laws officers, customer service officers and managers, and must be able to gain cooperation and buy-in from all areas of Council to ensure that staff are empowered and engaged when it comes to improving safety.
While a sound understanding of the OHS legislative framework is highly desired, support and training is available for the right candidate.

- Well-developed communication skills and the ability to work constructively with management and employees at all levels.
- Highly desirable - A tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety (or related discipline) and relevant experience working hands-on in an Occupational Health & Safety environment; or substantial relevant experience working hands-on in an Occupational Health and Safety environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in providing specialist advice on OHS legislation, policies, and procedures to a diverse range of services.
- Demonstrated knowledge in risk assessment, the development of Safe Work Method Statements and work plans.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and monitoring Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems and relevant Safety Management Plans.
- Well-developed report writing and analytical skills to produce reports to management, identifying trends.
- Current drivers licence.
- Willingness to undertake a pre-employment medical, police check and Working with Children Check.
