Proposed Sale of Gerang Memorial Hall

On Wednesday 08 May 2024 Council resolved to give public notice of its intention to sell following asset:

Address: Gerang-Glenlee Road, Gerang Gerung (Gerang Memorial Hall)
Zoning: Township Zone
Planning Overlays: Bushfire Management Overlay (BMO), Environmental Significance ESO (ESO6).

Under Section 114(2) of the Local Government Act 2020:
Before selling or exchanging the land, the Council must—

(a)   at least 4 weeks prior to selling or exchanging the land, publish notice of intention to do so—

(i)    on the Council's Internet site; and
(ii)   in any other manner prescribed by the regulations for the purposes of this subsection; and

(b)   undertake a community engagement process in accordance with its community engagement policy;
(c)   and obtain from a person who holds the qualifications or experience specified under section 13DA(2) of the Valuation of Land Act 1960 a valuation of the land which is made not more than 6 months prior to the sale or exchange.

Council is now seeking feedback on the proposal to sell the Gerang Memorial Hall land and building, and submissions can be made via www.haveyoursay.hindmarsh.vic.gov.au. Alternatively, you can submit written feedback to Council via email to info@hindmarsh.vic.gov.au or by dropping it into any Hindmarsh Shire Council Customer Service centre before the closing date.

Submissions will close at 5pm on Monday 10 June 2024, and will be considered in Council’s final decision on the proposed sale of the Gerang Memorial Hall at a future public Council meeting. Submitters should indicate if they wish to be heard publicly at the relevant Council meeting.

Council will also be holding a community drop-in session where interested community members are invited to discuss the future of the asset.

All memorabilia and other items of significance would be removed from the hall prior to sale. Council would continue to work with the former Hall Committee, families associated with the memorabilia and other community members to ensure that important items are stored appropriately or returned to original owners.
