Youth Week funding for Hindmarsh Skatepark Tour
Published on 06 February 2020
Local Hindmarsh Shire skateboard and scooter enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting 2020 Youth Week in Hindmarsh Shire. Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford has announced funding for a Hindmarsh Shire Skatepark Tour to celebrate Youth Week, which runs from 3 - 12 April 2020.
Hindmarsh Shire Council has secured funding to provide a bus tour of the shire’s four skateparks in Dimboola, Jeparit, Nhill and Rainbow, which will provide local youth with the opportunity to experience all four in just one day.
With funding now confirmed, Council will look to locking in a date during Youth Week (which coincides with Term 1 school holidays) on which to stage the event.
Hindmarsh Shire Mayor, Cr Rob Gersch expressed his gratitude for the funding provided by the Victorian Government explaining that “this is a great opportunity for youth from across the shire to come together and experience our great skateparks in Dimboola, Jeparit, Nhill and Rainbow. Without a public transport network, it is difficult for our residents under the age of 18 to visit neighbouring towns. This initiative will allow our youth to pit their skills against each of our skateparks, all of which offer vastly different challenges.”
With funding for the event secured, planning will now be finalised. The proposal is for the bus to pick up participants from Rainbow, Jeparit and Dimboola with skate and scoot activities commencing at Nhill. The bus will then complete another lap of the four towns, stopping off at each skatepark. Lunch will be provided at one of the Skateparks and participants will be delivered back to their point of origin later in the afternoon.
Council is calling for input from our local youth to help with the planning for this event to ensure it meets the needs of skateboard and scooter enthusiasts.
For any youth wanting to help shape this event, Council asks that you contact Simon Landrigan, Community Development Coordinator, on (03) 5391 4444 or email slandrigan@hindmarsh.vic.gov.au to become involved.
This event has been made possible with funding from the Victorian State Government and Hindmarsh Shire Council.
