This Sunday: Dimboola Human Powered Vehicle ‘Expo’

Published on 30 July 2019

This Sunday, 4 August 2019, teams from across Victoria will be heading to the Dimboola Recreation Reserve to participate in the third annual Dimboola Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) Expo.

The expo allows locals and visitors the chance to experience the emerging sport without travelling to Maryborough, Melbourne or South Australia. It also allows local region teams the opportunity to practice and demonstrate their skills at a closer venue.

This year’s event is attracting 8 teams, bringing 20 HPVs, with riders and support crews totaling around 150 people. Last year around 500 to 800 spectators witnessed the excitement and supported the teams involved, and we are expecting similar numbers this year.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay said “Dimboola has been fortunate to secure the only event of this type in the west of Victoria, and this event has the potential to grow the sport and inspire more local schools and communities to become involved.”

Cr Ismay continued “The Dimboola Recreation Reserve is a perfect location for HPV events and we hope in future to develop this venue to be able to host official race events.”

With the support of the Victorian Government Regional Events Innovation Fund, this year’s event will be ‘live-streamed’ to the Wimmera Mallee Tourism Facebook page. The action will be captured at up to four camera locations able to be viewed at: www.facebook.com/wimmeramalleetourism/

The six hour HPV ‘expo’ demonstration starting with a parade lap at 9:55am and concluding at 4:00pm.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase throughout the day.

Spectator entry is free, with car parking access via Park Street, Dimboola.

Apart from the Park Street entrance, all vehicle entrances into the Dimboola Recreation Reserve will be closed from early Sunday morning until after the event concludes late in the afternoon.

Preparation for the event will take place on Saturday 3 August 2019 so access to the Dimboola Recreation Reserve will also be restricted from Saturday afternoon.
