Swimming Pool Season to end in Hindmarsh Shire

With the end of the 2024/2025 summer season, the public swimming pools across Hindmarsh Shire are scheduled to close on Monday 10 March 2025.
Attendance across the four Council-operated swimming pools in Dimboola, Jeparit, Nhill and Rainbow has exceeded expectations, with the total number of visitors being 11,668 for the season! This included 5,229 at Dimboola, 671 at Jeparit, 4,087 at Nhill and 1,681 at Rainbow. As part of the free entry process to the swimming pools, there were also 2,616 individual registrations.
Visitors to the swimming pools have been from within the Hindmarsh Shire, neighbouring shires, across Victoria and from interstate including Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and the Northern Territory.
As well as normal entry, there has been plenty of other activity at the pools over the past few months! Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council held pool parties that attracted 170 people to Dimboola, 34 to Jeparit, Nhill had 60 and 23 in Rainbow. All the pools were used by local schools for recreational swimming and swim lessons, culminating in school swimming carnivals. Dimboola and Nhill pools were used for Vic Swim and Rainbow also supported private swimming lessons.
Hindmarsh Shire Council endorsed the plan to self-manage and operate all the Shire’s public swimming pools in mid-2024, which resulted in Council employing 26 lifeguards and one additional supervisor. This has provided an opportunity for local young people to gain workforce experience and receive appropriate lifesaving and first aid training while earning an income before returning to school, heading to tertiary education or seeking other employment.
Council has received many positive comments and feedback about the operation of the pools and about them being free of charge, and we wholeheartedly thank the community for enjoying these facilities!
