Successful Hindmarsh Shire Council April School Holiday Program
Published on 22 April 2025
Hindmarsh Shire Council’s April 2025 School Holiday program has been rated a huge success with more than 260 children attending the free and diverse activities during the April school holiday period.
The school holiday program featured:
- Crafty Arts with Jess in Jeparit and Ellen in Nhill featured children painting their own tote bags, while in Rainbow they made creative Easter eggs using ballons and string which were later filled with chocolate with Belinda from Turbo Gallery.
- A highly successful gaming event hosted by Level-Up! Gaming was held in the Rainbow MECCA Supper Room.
- Skate, BMX and scooter lessons were held in Dimboola, Jeparit and Rainbow with Renton Miller from Shredability. Nhill was to host a skate, BMX and scooting competition but due to a clash of dates and other events on a Saturday this did not eventuate.
- A soccer clinic was held at the Dimboola Recreation Reserve under the guidance of Horsham and District Soccer Club where participants learnt new soccer skills and drills.
- ‘Physics with Bruce’ were held in Dimboola where participants learnt about electricity and physics with fun demonstrations. Bruce also demonstrated his toroidal plasma staff which he created for the Wimmera Steampunk Festival.
- A Games Day in Jeparit was well attended, where participants competed against each other and together as a team to win chocolate Easter eggs and Lollies.
- Michelle from Desert Blooms, Dimboola led two booked out sessions in Jeparit and Dimboola where children got to make their own Kokedama which they were then able to keep and take home.
As with previous school holiday programs, the April school holiday program finished with a huge event at Nhill Memorial Community Centre where more than 120 children and parents watched the movie ‘Paddington in Peru’ which was screened free of charge while they also enjoyed free water and popcorn.
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay said, “The Hindmarsh Shire school holiday program continues to grow from strength to strength which is a testament to the amount of hard work that staff put in to create the activities and events. The variety of activities ensures that there is something for everyone, which is another reason why the program is so successful.”
The school holidays program was made possible through funding from the Victorian Governments Engage 2025 – 2027 and FReeZa 2025 – 2027 program that enables young people to engage, participate, develop and celebrate their local community.
