Hindmarsh Shire Council is pleased to announce that the St Kilda Film Festival Victorian Tour will once again be in Nhill on the evening of Friday 23 August 2019 from 7:30pm at the Nhill Memorial Community Centre.

The St Kilda Film Festival Victorian Tour showcases a selection of Australia’s best short films with the 12 short films to be screened at Nhill covering a broad range of topics including five dramas, one animation, two documentaries, one horror and two comedies. The screening will showcase some of the winners of the 36th annual St Kilda Film Festival.

Some of the selected films include: ‘Judas Collar’, a drama about a wild camel in outback Australia that is captured and fitted with a tracking device known as a Judas Collar. This film was the winner of the Best Short Film and Best Director awards and is eligible for consideration in the OSCARS® short film Award category.

‘The Hitchhiker’, is a 13-minute horror-comedy film directed by Adele Vuko. A wild, prosecco-fuelled road trip takes an interesting turn with the pick-up of a hitchhiker.

The magic of the underwater world is unveiled in the ‘Flow Effect’, an 11 minute documentary that describes how Liv Roses escapes the overwhelming routine of her daily life, exploring the vast beauty of the ocean.

‘Lost and Found’, is a 7-minute animation drama that was the winner of the Craft Award and Best Original Score. The film is the story of a bumbling knitted dinosaur that must unravel himself to save the love of his life.

Directed by Clayton Waddell, ‘Shepherd’ is an 11 minute drama that tells the story of an awkward

seventeen-year-old boy that while on a drunken night out, finds himself pressured to be the type of man that he despises. This drama was the Winner of the Best Screenplay.

“Great short films require great imagination – the selection of shorts showcased on the 2019 Victorian Tour demonstrates this remarkably” explained Paul Harris, the Festival Director. Harris also said that this year’s program spans genres and explores diverse landscapes from around Australia, each bringing a unique perspective to the screen with vivid creativity.

The St Kilda Film Festival is Australia’s oldest publicly-owned film event that provides film buffs from around the state the opportunity to view some of Australia’s celebrated filmmaking talent.

The three-month Victorian Tour is coming to an end with the visit to Nhill on Friday 23 August being one of the last screenings.
