Official Opening for new Pontoon at Dimboola Rowing Club

Dimboola Rowing Club is set to showcase their new rowing launch pontoon to the public with a special event on Wednesday 2 October 2019 at 10.00am on the Wimmera River at Dimboola.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr. Ron Ismay will officially open the new pontoon which is the culmination of a project delivered with the collaboration of the Dimboola Rowing Club, Wimmera Catchment Management Authority and Hindmarsh Shire Council.

With the announcement of the opening, Cr Ismay said that the completion of the project is perfectly timed to coincide with the Club’s annual regatta only weeks away. “It is great to see the new rowing launch pontoon installed and already being put to work by the local rowing club’s members” explained Cr Ismay. “The pontoon is a fantastic piece of waterway infrastructure and is sure to be popular with visiting rowers when they arrive for the regatta. I think it will also be popular with a myriad of other users as well, with the deck also a great spot from which to cast a line or to just dangle your feet in the water.”

The new pontoon replaced an ageing ramp design structure, the origins of which trace back several decades. “The new pontoon is far more accessible and a lot safer than the old timber ramp which the club had utilized for decades” explained Cr Ismay.

With rowing already a popular sport and recreational pursuit in Dimboola, Cr Ismay hopes to see a boost in those taking the opportunity to try rowing. “Our official opening event was specifically planned to coincide with the school holidays so that younger people from throughout the shire might be encouraged to come along and inspect the new facility. So why not come along and take a look at the pontoon for yourself and talk to the Club about how you might get involved.”

The new pontoon is located on the Wimmera River directly in front of the Dimboola Rowing Club within the Dimboola Recreation Reserve. Anyone who would like to inspect the pontoon or attend the opening is welcome to join the festivities from 10.00am on Wednesday 2 October 2019.
