Nhill Skate Park Competition Success

Published on 30 September 2019

On Thursday 26 September 2019, the Nhill community celebrated the opening of the Nhill Skatepark, with a Skatepark Leagues competition for scooter, BMX and skateboard fans from across the region hosted by YMCA Action Sports.

The competition attracted a large crowd of spectators who were on hand to watch competitors of all ages, (including some four year olds), and with various skill levels perform and pit their skills against each other.

Prizes were awarded to top performers across each section of the competition and to keep it exciting for all competitors, names were drawn at random intervals for other prizes including skate gear, t-shirts and stickers.

Hindmarsh Shire Mayor Cr Ron Ismay welcomed everybody to the event and Member for Lowan Emma Kealy drew the name of a lucky winner of a brand new scooter.

Hindmarsh Shire Mayor Cr Ron Ismay said, “On behalf of Hindmarsh Shire Council, I would like to say a massive thank you to all those who came along to the Skatepark Leagues competition at the Nhill Skatepark today. Thank you to Emma Kealy for attending and speaking at the event.”

He added “Thank you also to YMCA Action Sports and Skatepark Leagues for running the day as well a big thank you to Public Mayhem of Melbourne and former Nhill resident Nathan Kennedy for donating the scooter and Drift from Horsham for donating other prizes that were awarded throughout the day.”

The Nhill Lions Club did an outstanding job keeping everyone happy and fed with a sausage sizzle and combined with the fine weather it was a fantastic day to commemorate the opening of the Nhill Skatepark which was funded through the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund and Hindmarsh Shire Council.
