Nhill Davis Park Grandstand Demolition Date Approaching
Published on 06 March 2020
Following Council’s decision in October 2019 to demolish the Nhill Davis Park Grandstand, a contract has been awarded to demolish the structure and restore the ground area.
The grandstand has been closed to the public since April 2018, after an independent engineering assessment found that the load bearing capacity of the grandstand was severely compromised due to advanced degradation of the structure.
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Rob Gersch said “Council didn’t make this decision easily, all options were considered and there were several meetings held with the Nhill and District Sporting Club to discuss what the best way forward would be.”
Cr Gersch continued “While this bit of history will be lost, it was decided this is the best option to meet the needs of the Nhill and District Sporting Club and community use of the whole facilities into the future. Conversations will continue with the Nhill and District Sporting Club as to what the future development will be and Council is actively seeking any grant funding opportunities that may be suitable to support this project”.
It is anticipated that demolition will be carried out from 16 March 2020, with weather permitting. Demolition will take approximately a week to complete the works.
The proposed works will not affect the upcoming 2020 Wimmera Football League and Hockey season.
