Local and visiting anglers will soon enjoy greater access to Rainbow Lake after the recent announcement from the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA). Late last week the VFA confirmed that $60,000 has been awarded to the project which will see a new fishing pontoon installed on the popular lake, just south of Rainbow.

This latest improvement will further enhance facilities at the lake, which was established by repurposing a decommissioned water reservoir several years ago. The Lake, filled via a direct connection to the adjacent Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water pipeline provides locals with year-round access to fishing and water-based activities. Facilities and developments include a BBQ and shelter, amenities building, all weather driveway with drop off zone parking area, lawns and even a small beach!

The Lake is operated by a passionate local Committee who manage the maintenance of the lake and facilities.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor Cr Ron Ismay expressed his excitement for the new project which importantly will include all abilities access. “Announcement of the new pontoon is great for the Rainbow Community. We all appreciate the support of the Victorian Fisheries Authority which has been ongoing and instrumental in the development of this fantastic Community facility. This will also be a great boost for the Committee who work tirelessly on maintaining and improving the site each year. It is great to see their efforts being rewarded.”

Rainbow Lake Committee President Chris Zadow was also excited to hear the funding announcement. “The Lake is very popular with local anglers of all ages, along with the many visitors who drop in at the lake whilst traveling through the region. We thank the VFA and Council for their continued support and look forward to the new fishing pontoon being installed.”

The new fishing pontoon is being funded by the VFA’s Large Grants funding program and Hindmarsh Shire Council.
