New Coach Parking Zones Proposed
Published on 07 June 2019
With the impending commencement of construction of the new Dimboola Library, Hindmarsh Shire Council has been consulting with Public Transport Victoria, V/Line and Firefly Coaches regarding the location of V/Line coach service parking in Dimboola.
Following the first sod turning ceremony on Thursday 16 May 2019, Hindmarsh Shire Council has commenced discussions with the architect and contractor in relation to the commencement of construction.
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay said “As the existing coach parking, drop off and pick up zones are located within the rear car park of the Dimboola Library, they will be impacted by the construction of the new Library. Council has been identifying other suitable locations for parking for both east and west bound coach services”.
“It is proposed that east bound coaches will use an existing bus zone in Lloyd Street adjacent to Lochiel Street while west bound coaches will use Lochiel Street adjacent to Lloyd Street” said Cr Ismay.
He added “Both of these locations are still within easy walking distance to cafes’, shops, public amenities and the supermarket”.
Council representatives met with V/Line and Firefly Coaches on-site on Wednesday 5 June 2019 and whilst in-principal support was provided for the proposed sites there are still a number of issues that need to be resolved prior to the locations being endorsed by Public Transport Victoria and V/Line.
Whilst the new Dimboola Library and establishment of future landscaping behind the existing Library will necessitate the need for the permanent relocation of coach parking, the area will
become a highly valued community open space and provide a fantastic link between Dimboola’s business area and the Nine Creeks Reserve which will be the commencement of the Wimmera River Discovery Trail.
“Council recognises the important community connectivity and economic benefits that the coach services provide to Dimboola which the main reason Council has attempted to re-locate the parking zones within the main business area of Dimboola” said Cr Ismay.
Cr Ismay concluded “Should any members of the public require any further information or wish to discuss the proposed locations of the coach parking zones, see map below or please contact Phil King on 5391 4444, 0429 406 709 or email pking@hindmarsh.vic.gov.au.”
