We were honoured to host the Governor of Victoria, Her Excellency Professor Margaret Gardner AC in our Shire recently. The Governor was taken to a wide variety of businesses and locations (all of her prior choosing) which included Luv-A-Duck, Aherns Silos, GrainCorp Dimboola, Dimboola Memorial Secondary College and finishing with a round table discussion with a group of local farmers. We feel we showcased our Shire excellently and thanks to all involved in organising.
We have recently passed motions to commence the sale of Gerang-Gerung Hall and the Dimboola Senior Citizens building (no longer used for purpose). Whilst this will end Council’s involvement, we are confident the sales will provide an opportunity for a group or private individual, to achieve a good outcome for the community whether it be a private dwelling or community group scenario. The large olive tree at the rear of the Dimboola Senior Citizens building will be incorporated into the property's title as part of the sale conditions and will remain for perpetuity.
Following community consultation, there were a number of plans and strategies also passed, Climate Adaption, Fair Access Action Plan, On-site Waste Water Management Plan etc. We thank everyone for their input into these items.
Congratulations to all the businesses and community groups who were successful in our recent round of funding grants. It is exciting to see people willing to invest in Hindmarsh Shire, we know the money will be put to good use.
Time is running out to stand for council with the upcoming elections on our doorstep. Please take the time to consider running or tap someone on the shoulder who you think would be suitable. You need to be at the table to have your communities voice heard.
