Roy Street in Jeparit is set to receive streetscape improvements following the success of a Hindmarsh Shire Council funding application to assist in revitalising the street.

Council will receive $36,405.00 from the Victorian Government Tiny Towns Fund to replace the existing timber garden bed surrounds with new attractive, maintenance free composite materials along Roy Street between Charles Street and Scott Street.

The project will enhance the aesthetics of Roy Street whilst improving safety for local and visiting pedestrians using the footpaths.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Brett Ireland said “I am delighted that council was successful in its application for Tiny Towns Funding. The collaborative funding from the grant, plus funding from Hindmarsh Shire and the Jeparit Town Committee, will enable us to give the main street of Jeparit a much needed spruce up with some garden bed infrastructure, followed on by some new plantings at a future date. Congratulations to all involved.”

Jeparit Town Advisory Committee Chairman, Jason Hutson, added, “the Jeparit Town Advisory Committee is pleased to hear that the funding application through the Tiny Towns Funding Program to assist with the revitalisation of the Roy Street garden beds has been successful. It is an initiative that has been needed and will certainly improve the look of Roy Street. The Town Advisory Committee, along with Council will be contributing funds towards the project.”

Hindmarsh Shire Council and the Jeparit Town Advisory Committee will each contribute an additional $6,068.00 towards the $48,541.00 project.

Works are expected to commence in August or September 2024 and be completed by the end of the year.

Planning will also be undertaken for the future replacement of the remaining timber garden edging in Roy Street with the same material.
