International Day of People with Disability

Published on 20 November 2019

Jaypex Park will be the place to be on Tuesday 3 December, with Hindmarsh Shire Council hosting a free activity session including games, dancing and art to celebrate International Day of People with Disability.

Open to the whole community, the annual celebration promises an afternoon of relaxed fun and will include a sausage sizzle for participants. Each year the event provides an opportunity for people from a variety of regional areas to catch up, swap stories, and enjoy some sunshine.

For those attending this year there will be the opportunity to participate in an art workshop, dance to music at the sound shell, and participate in a range of fun outdoor games.

Participants can explore their creative side with Nichola Clarke hosting an art workshop. Nichola is a Horsham based artist whose works have appeared at the Art Is Festival and the Nati Frinj Festival in recent years. Many of the staff and participants attending this year may also be familiar with Nichola through the art workshops she runs at the Centre for Participation in Horsham.

For those looking to work up a sweat, local choreographer, Janeth Rebarbas will be hosting a dance session at the sound shell, which will be great fun for all involved.

The day includes a free sausage sizzle, with Council also happy to cater for anyone with special dietary needs. If you have specific requirements, please call or email Council via the contact details below.

There is a disabled toilet facility on site and plenty of shady areas for people to relax in if the weather is warm.

If you would like any further information about this event please contact Matt Sherwell, Community Development Officer on (03) 53914444 or via email at msherwell@hindmarsh.vic.gov.au.
