Hindmarsh Youth Awards Night Cancelled
Published on 28 March 2019
Due to insufficient nominations being received for each of the categories, the inaugural Hindmarsh Shire Youth Awards scheduled for Friday 5 April 2019 has been cancelled.
The awards, a concept developed by the 2018 Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council, were to be established to recognise the efforts of the Shire’s youth in a variety of categories. The proposed awards were to provide recognition of both individual and group efforts in fields such as volunteering, the arts, the environment, business and sport.
Hindmarsh Shire Mayor Cr Ron Ismay explained the reason for the cancellation, stating that “the idea for the awards was to recognise outstanding performances by youth within the Hindmarsh Shire”. Whilst disappointed that the event had to be cancelled Cr Ismay took the opportunity to thank those that had submitted nominations. “Whilst we were a little light on for nominations, those that were received showed Hindmarsh has some very active youth doing their best to make a difference in their chosen field, be it their sporting and artistic pursuits or volunteering efforts.”
Cr Ismay advised that Council would be celebrating the nominated youth during Volunteers Week. “Our youth have a big part to play in the future prosperity of our Shire and these nominees demonstrate that our youth are and will continue to, have a positive impact on our community”. “We look forward to acknowledging their nominations during Volunteer Week with award presentations and posts on Council’s website and Facebook page.”
