Hindmarsh Shire is to receive $1.5m from round 2 of the Victorian Government’s Fixing Country Roads Program.
Acknowledging the funding boost Hindmarsh Shire Mayor Cr Ron Ismay said “I’m extremely pleased that we will now be able to complete the widening of the Nhill Rainbow Road”. “This will enable a further upgrade in the safety of a key link road in the Shire” continued Cr Ismay.
Round 1 funding through the Fixing Country Roads program is currently underway widening a 2.3km section of road. A shorter 500m section has already been completed and work will begin in the next few weeks on the replacement of the bridge over Outlet Creek.
The new funding will enable widening of approximately 9km of the remaining narrow sections of the road, with this work commencing early in the new financial year.
Council’s contribution to the new sections of the road will be $750,000, which has been included in Council’s draft 2019/2020 budget.
Council is meeting the commitment it made, when opening the road to all traffic, to improve the safety of the Nhill Rainbow Road,” concluded Cr Ismay
