Are you a young person living, working or going to school in Hindmarsh Shire? Have you always wanted to do more for the people around you? Do you want to make a difference in your community while learning leadership and teamwork skills? If you answered yes, then this is the perfect opportunity for you!  Hindmarsh Shire Council is excited to announce that nominations for the 2025 Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council are now open.

What does a Hindmarsh Shire Youth Councillor do?
Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council meets every month to plan and run events such as live music events, outdoor cinemas, pool parties, skate competitions and practical training opportunities. The Youth Council works on Community projects like murals, mental health awareness activities and the school holidays program.  The Youth Council makes sure that young people are seen and heard and have a say in the decisions that affect them.

2024 Hindmarsh Shire Youth Councillor, Cooper Stasinowsky said “Being a part of the Youth Council has provided me a great way to get involved in my community”.

Youth Councillor Lilly Williams also said, “Being a Youth Councillor has opened up many opportunities, for the present as well as the future”.

Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council was established in May 2015 and compromises on 12 members, plus the recipient of Hindmarsh Shire Council’s Youth of the Year.  All youth council applicants must live, work, or attend school within the Hindmarsh Shire municipality.

Applications for the 2025 Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council close at 11:59pm on Sunday 24 November 2024.  Once we have received your application, there is an interview process with successful applicants being presented with their certificates and badges in early 2025. The annual Youth Council Leadership Retreat takes place shortly after.

Application forms can be downloaded from Council’s website at www.hindmarsh.vic.gov.au/apply-for-youth-council, or we can provide you a hardcopy at any of our Customer Service Centres and Libraries.
