Supported Playgroups across Hindmarsh Shire have recently participated in activities to celebrate Dental Health Week.

Dental Health Week is the Australian Dental Association’s (ADA) major annual oral health campaign and was held nationally from 5 to 11 August 2024, with Hindmarsh Shire Council participating between Monday 5 to Wednesday 7 August. The campaign focuses on the importance of taking steps to care for your teeth and gums to help you keep your teeth and smile for life.

Playgroups were delighted with the appearance of a special guest, the tooth fairy who fluttered in to talk about looking after our teeth.  The Nhill and Jeparit Playgroups were also visited by Holly Phillips, who is a dietitian with West Wimmera Health Service, who further emphasised the benefits of a healthy diet to keep teeth healthy.

Dental health information was provided to families along with details on how to access the Child Dental Benefits Schedule through Medicare.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Brett Ireland said “It is vitally important to recognise that our communities deserve and have access to quality dental and oral care. The playgroup sessions assisted in educating our young people in dental hygiene and are invaluable within our shire. Thanks to our staff for organising these activities.”.
