Former resident returning home to paint large Dimboola mural
Published on 03 July 2019
Former Dimboola resident, Travis Price will be returning to his home town of Dimboola in July to paint a large mural on the external wall of the Dimboola Café.
Travis has designed the mural to recognise and acknowledge local indigenous history and culture, the Wimmera River, local flora and fauna, agriculture, and early settlement. He will be assisted by Hindmarsh Shire Youth Councillors, Dimboola Memorial Secondary College (DMSC) teachers and students, and local artists.
Travis completed his secondary schooling at DMSC and went on to study at the University of Ballarat. After graduating Travis started his career as a Graphic Designer before transitioning to become a highly regarded Commercial Illustrator.
Over the past twenty years, Travis has worked for clients including Mambo, Nike, Under Armour, Pearl Jam and Blink–182 among others.
Respected internationally for his evolution and experimentation in vector illustration, Travis has presented his work at numerous design conferences and universities including the National Gallery of Victoria. This has all been achieved while working from his home based studio in Ballarat.
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay said “It isn’t everyday a world renowned artist returns to his home town to work with local students and artists to pass on expertise and experience. For Travis to return to Dimboola to give his time to paint the mural is an unbelievable commitment by him and great achievement by members of the Hindmarsh Youth Council who instigated this initiative”.
Travis said, “I am really looking forward to returning to Dimboola to paint the mural and to catch up with some old mates. Weather permitting, I hope to start painting on Tuesday 23 July and expect to be completed by Thursday 25 or Friday 26 July, but of course, this will be dependent on the weather”.
Whilst in Dimboola, Travis will take time out to talk to students at DMSC and with the support of the Dimboola Town Committee will conduct a community presentation on Tuesday 23 July from 7.00pm at the Dimboola RSL Hall.
Travis will talk about his journey from Dimboola to working with some of the world’s biggest brands like Nike, Mambo etc.
Interested members of the community are encouraged to attend the presentation to hear Travis and to see some examples of his brilliant work.
Funding assistance for the mural has been provided by Hindmarsh Shire Council and the Victorian Government’s FReeZA program.
