Community Planning & Economic Development Consultations
Published on 09 March 2023
Hindmarsh Shire is seeking community feedback through a series of community consultation sessions to develop 2023 – 2028 Community Plans for Dimboola, Jeparit, Nhill and Rainbow.
In addition, the community planning sessions will provide input and directions for a 2023 – 2028 Hindmarsh Shire Economic Development Strategy.
The plans and strategies were due to be reviewed and updated in 2020 but were delayed due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic where community gatherings were not permitted under Victorian Government COVID control protocols.
Community input into previous community plans has resulted in a range of developments across the shire by both Council and the community. Some of these developments include the establishment of new Dimboola Library/Customer Service Centre and Community Civic Hub, redevelopment of the Jeparit swimming hole precinct and upgrades to the adjacent Jeparit Caravan Park.
In Nhill the new skate park at Jaypex Park, the new tennis club rooms, Nhill Streetscape Plan and continued advocacy for the redevelopment of Davis Park have been previously identified whilst the development of Rainbow Lake, new female netball change rooms, establishment of The Oasis and development of Rainbow Rises were all priorities in Rainbow.
Consultation sessions will be held in Dimboola on Monday 27 March at the Library Civic Hub; Rainbow, Tuesday 28 March at the MECCA Supper Room; Jeparit, Monday 3 April, at the Jeparit Memorial Hall and Nhill on Tuesday 4 April at NMCC.
All consultations will be held from 6:00pm – 7:30pm with the Nhill session being livestreamed on Hindmarsh Shire Council’s Facebook page for residents who are unable to attend in person.
Viewers will also be able to send messages with questions and comments that will be relayed to the facilitators for inclusion in discussions.
Council encourages residents to attend and contribute with their ideas as these community plans and the economic development strategy will be for five years during which time Council and the community will work together to try and source funding to see the prioritised community aspirations come to fruition.
