Community Action Grants and Business Assistance Grants Awarded

At its meeting on Wednesday 5 June 2019, Hindmarsh Shire Council resolved to award local community organisations and businesses with grants from the final round of Community Action Grants and Business Assistance Grants program for the 2018 / 2019 financial year.
The Community Action Grants program consists of four different categories; Community Assistance, Event Sponsorship, Minor Facility Upgrades and Small Equipment.
Council resolved to provide funding to five community organisations.
Nhill RSL Sub-Branch received funding of $1,000 through the Community Assistance category to assist with the purchase of materials to make approximately 14,000 red woollen poppies to display on commemorative days such as Remembrance Day and Armistice Day at the Soldier Memorial in Goldsworthy Park.
Dimboola Golf Club Inc will receive $500 from the Event Sponsorship category to assist with the running of the 2019 Victorian Veterans Golf Sand-green Championships which is anticipated to attract up to 70 veteran golfers during August.
Two organisations received grants through the Minor Facilities Upgrades category with CWA Nhill Twilight receiving funding of $ 1,500 to undertake the painting of the walls and ceiling in the recently re-plastered main CWA meeting room.
Dimboola RSL Sub-Branch received $1,945 to assist with the design, supply and installation of an interpretative display and landscaping at the ANZAC Avenue of Honour at the Dimboola Memorial Secondary College. The interpretative display will provide an historic overview of how the unique Dimboola War Memorial was established as the Dimboola Soldiers Memorial Elementary School in 1924.
The Rainbow Recreation Reserve Committee of Management obtained funding of $1,000 to assist with the purchase of trophy cabinets to safely display and preserve local sporting club’s memorabilia.
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay said, “It is fantastic that Council is able to support worthwhile community organisations with funding to assist in the purchase of materials and help them to achieve their goals”. “With the end of the 2018 / 2019 year upon us, I encourage other community organisations to submit applications for funding through the Community Action Grants in 2019 / 2020”, added Cr Ismay.
Council also resolved to provide funding assistance to Nhill business, Gypsy Soul Hire through the Business Development category of the Business Assistance Grants program. Gypsy Soul Hire will use the funding to assist with marketing and promotion, purchase of business software and staff training.
Cr Ismay said, “As with the Community Action Grant’s program I would like to encourage Hindmarsh business owners to apply for funding through the Business Assistance Grants program to assist them with either business development opportunities or to undertake building improvements through the streetscape category”.
