Former Dimboola resident and musician Aaron Moar is returning to his hometown of Dimboola for a performance of original songs as part of the Steampunk Festival weekend on Sunday 24 April 2022 in the gardens at the rear of Dimboola library from 1.30pm until 5.00pm.

Aaron is best remembered locally for his performances of cover songs, while performing solo or with bands The Push Carts, Sonic Outlaws and The Proud.

However, his music background has predominantly been as songwriter, performing and recording his own songs – initially with local Wimmera group Jezebel Child, followed by Melbourne groups Tempus and Willow, who shared stages with artists such as John Butler, Cosmic Psychos, Pete Murray and Killing Heidi.

More recently, Aaron has been writing and recording with his band Humane and played session guitar for Byron Bay artist Aine Tyrell’s Victorian and Tasmanian shows.

Aaron is a primary school guitar teacher, visiting various schools in the Macedon Ranges each week to deliver music education to groups of young kids.

His latest musical project is called ‘Little Desert’, a name that acknowledges the area around Dimboola where he grew up. Aaron has released two albums under the name Little Desert, - ‘My World Party’ in 2020 and ‘Jungle Man’ in 2021. As well as writing and producing both albums, he performs every instrument in the recordings.

The Little Desert music was spawn out of the 2020 lockdowns. Aaron’s work as a guitar teacher in primary schools was severely impacted and he found himself with extra time for creativity. He set a musical goal to write and record ten songs within a month and the result was the My World Party album – a lo-fi mash up of energetic alternative rock, funk and pop.

His latest album Jungle Man, is an eclectic mix of songs featuring a more polished production sound, credited to the work of recording and mixing engineer Sylvan Fennell.

Although working on a third album of Little Desert songs, Aaron will give solo acoustic performances of tracks from both Little Desert albums at the Steampunk Sunday Recharge session.

Supporting Aaron are local Wimmera performers Darryn Wardle and Jeff Woodward who were both raised on farms near Brim and began their music careers playing in bands in the heyday of the Wimmera Rock scene in the 80’s and 90’s.

Darryn and Jeff both spent many years working and playing music in Australia’s Top End, with Darryn in Broome and Jeff in Katherine, before returning to their home region and joining forces as in 2020.

Along the way both Darryn and Jeff have shared the stage with many well-known Australian artists and American blues legend Tony Joe White.

After playing their first duo gig to a packed Horsham Town Hall as part of the 60 Years of Wimmera Rock Festival, and a number of well-received pub and private gigs, COVID-19 hit and put a stop to live music.

Following a break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Darryn and Jeff have returned to the stage better than ever, performing their unique acoustic versions of classic Oz Rock songs around the region and are thrilled to be supporting Aaron.

The Steampunk Sunday Recharge concert is a free event and supported by the Victorian Government and Hindmarsh Shire Council’s Reconnecting Communities through Small Events program.

This event will be run in accordance with COVID-19 protocols, and all attendees must be double vaccinated at a minimum.
