Rainbow Silo Development Drop In Session

The Rainbow Community will have a further opportunity to view the proposed design for the Llew Schilling Silo in Bow St with an additional Silo Drop-In Session scheduled for Thursday 17 November 2022. The session will be hosted at the Rainbow Library at 49 Federal St, Rainbow and will run from 6:00pm until 8:30pm. This session will allow community members to view the proposed design for the Silo transformation and ask questions about the development.

Although works are yet to commence on site the project is progressing well, with Architects Dig Design currently working with structural engineers, fire services engineers and a building surveyor to ensure the design meets all building code requirements. The planning process has also commenced, with an application recently submitted for planning approval.

The project aims to transform a 34m high concrete grain silo into a captivating attraction, with both internal and external large scale art activations. In addition to the art activations, the Silo will also incorporate a lift and spiral stairway leading to a viewing platform at the top of the Silo. There are also plans for occasional night-time events at the site, which will encourage visitors to stay overnight in Rainbow, further supporting the local economy.

Design for the Silo development is expected to be finalised in early 2023, with a tender process to follow in order to appoint a contractor to undertake this challenging project. Construction is aiming for completion by April 2024. This project has been made possible with funding from the Victorian Government’s Tourism Infrastructure Program – Flagship Projects.
