Hindmarsh Swimming Pools

Whilst the weather hasn’t really been conducive to swimming, we know the community is disappointed with the way our 22/23 pool season has commenced.

Despite efforts from Council and the YMCA to have the pools ready and open by the end of November – we have faced a number of challenges from recruiting lifeguards through to the accessing the experts and parts needed to keep the pools running.

This year Council invested an additional $325,000 to the Pools to enable a range of upgrades including:

  • New solar at Nhill Swimming Pool
  • New automatic chemical dispensers at all four pools
  • Mobility hoists at Dimboola and Rainbow
  • Security sensor lighting at all four pools
  • New automatic vacuum cleaners at all four pools

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Brett Ireland said, “It has been fantastic to be able to invest additional money through the Federal Governments Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Fund towards upgrades at each of the pools.”

Council annually budgets over $375,000 for the operation and maintenance of the pools to keep them operating and understands the importance of having a recreational swimming facility and somewhere for the Hindmarsh community to learn to swim in the towns.

In relation to this season:

  • Dimboola is open and operating
  • Nhill is open and operating with the solar expected to be installed mid-January 2023
  • Rainbow is awaiting a new $35,000 filtration tank which has been ordered and expected to be installed in the next fortnight.
  • Jeparit has been filled four times this season but does not hold the water, plumbing maintenance continues, and an opening date will be provided as soon as the pool is able to hold water.

Council is committed to understanding the future needs of the swimming pool assets through condition assessments and the expectations of the Nhill, Dimboola, Jeparit and Rainbow communities for their future swimming needs and as such an Aquatic Strategy is proposed for 2023, which we look forward to the community participating in.
