Hindmarsh Shire Libraries hosted their first event celebrating Women’s History Month - Herstory: An evening with Tracey Rigney on Friday 25 March 2022.

Women’s History Month allows us to reflect on the courage of women in past generations and to celebrate how their efforts and bravery have afforded women the opportunities and freedoms that we have today.

It was an incredible honour to have Dimboola resident Tracey Rigney as the first speaker at Dimboola Library for Women’s History Month. Tracey is Wotjobaluk and Ngarrindjeri Woman who draws her creative inspiration from her people and culture. Tracey shared her life with attendees through her unique storytelling and a short film documenting her work.

Tracey began her career in the theatre as a playwright, transitioned to film and television including documentary and short films and has also written for television. Her films have travelled nationally and internationally and have received nominations and awards such as Best Short Drama. One of her career highlights is working with her co-collaborator Desiree Cross and Koorie students from Dimboola Primary School on Teacher’s Pet. This film won Best Primary School Production and was an ATOM award finalist. Tracey will also be showing her short film at the Wimmera Steampunk Festival on Saturday 23 April. Tickets for the festival are available via TryBooking.com or at Dimboola Library.

With the success of this event, Hindmarsh Shire Libraries look forward to showcasing future events across all four libraries. To stay up to date follow the Hindmarsh Shire Libraries Facebook and Instagram pages and subscribe to the Hindmarsh Shire Council fortnightly e-newsletter.
