Harmony Week 2022 - Everyone Belongs
Published on 16 March 2022
Harmony Week is a celebration of Australia’s cultural diversity and an opportunity to share what we all have in common. It is celebrated every year between the 21 and 27 March.
This year, Hindmarsh Shire Council is supporting local schools through a range of projects and activities that promote Harmony Week. Inspired by the theme “Everybody Belongs”, the activities will encourage students to think about what it means to live in a multicultural society, and explore ideas around cultural diversity and inclusion.
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Melanie Albrecht said “With over 30% of our residents born overseas, Harmony Week is a wonderful opportunity to learn about cultural connections throughout Hindmarsh. Thank you to all the schools that are getting on board. Engaging with the youth of Hindmarsh will enable Council to share the visions of our future leaders around cultural inclusion.”
In addition to supporting local schools, Council is also encouraging community members to participate in Harmony Week by contributing drawings, paintings, poems, quotes, etc, that reflects on living in harmony in a multi-cultural society.
Cr Albrecht added, “We would like to encourage all community members to reflect on the theme “Everybody Belongs” and share with us your creations that showcase inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.”
Responses to Harmony Week celebrations from students and residents across the shire will be displayed on Council’s website, Facebook page and in local media during and after Harmony Week.
