Growing Up in Hindmarsh Story Competition Winners Announced
Published on 14 November 2022
Hindmarsh Shire Libraries is pleased to announce the winners of the local story competition, Growing Up in Hindmarsh.
Former resident of Jeparit, and author, Maryanne Plazzer, assisted in selecting the winners after launching the story writing competition earlier this year.
During a visit to Hindmarsh, MA Plazzer launched the book Growing Up in Country Australia, edited by Rick Morton, which included her own submission.
Hindmarsh Shire Libraries would like to congratulate the following winners in the adult category:
1st Shirley Flack from Rainbow
2nd Bob Lewis from Jeparit
3rd Ann Van Dyk from Jeparit
Shirley's short story is delivered to us in a non-linear style that captures her personality and creativity. It takes you to the heart of the community and surrounds, the people, the work, the neighbourhood watch, the complexities and simplicities of life and the generosity within the community of Rainbow.
In the junior category Hindmarsh Shire Libraries would like to congratulate the following winners:
1st Malachi Jenns
2nd Neve Cross
3rd Stanley Foster
Honorable Mention Holly Schulze
Malachi has captured in this written and graphic short story, an integral part of community life in Jeparit. What connects them from the youth through to the elders in the community. The simplicity of the young authors descriptions takes the reader to the club. A sensory experience.
Hindmarsh Shire Libraries invites on-going stories from the community to be submitted through their local branch to continue to grow the collection of local stories by local writers on their connection to Hindmarsh Shire. Stories can be submitted as photos of artworks, cooking recipes, written personal stories and any other medium. All stories submitted will be available to read at all four libraries across the Hindmarsh Shire.
