Refurbished Old Dimboola Shire Hall Officially Opened

In front of a well-attended gathering, Dr. Anne Webster MP, Federal Member for Mallee officially opened Dimboola’s refurbished Old Shire Hall on Thursday 1 July 2021. Hindmarsh Shire Council received funding of $600,000 through the Federal Government’s 2019 Community Development Grants Program to undertake refurbishment works following the construction of the new Dimboola Library / Customer Service Centre.

To be known as the Dimboola Community Civic Hub, the venue will be a multi-use facility that can be used by businesses and community organisations for meetings, exhibitions, training and educational purposes as well as library events and functions.

Dr. Webster commented on the precinct saying she was very impressed with the transformation of the area from a former asphalt car park to a magnificent garden and green space with seating, outdoor event space, new public toilets and construction of the new library customer service centre and the refurbishment of the Old Shire Hall.

Dr. Webster said the area will become a valuable community space for residents and visitors and that everyone should be proud of it.

In responding to Dr. Webster, Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay said “I endorse Dr Webster’s comments and that the residents of Dimboola and district should be very proud of not only the developments in this area but around the town”.

He added “Dimboola is looking fantastic and it is little wonder that people are relocating to the town”. Dr. Webster asked Cr Ismay to assist her in unveiling the official opening plaque and following the official proceedings spent some time talking to local residents before departing for other engagements.
