New Dimboola Facilities to be Officially Opened

Published on 11 February 2021

Wednesday 24 February 2021 is shaping to be an exciting day for the Dimboola community when two new facilities are to be officially opened by Ms Danielle Green MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria and Parliamentary Secretary for Sport.

Ms Green will officially open the new facility upgrades at the Dimboola Bowling Club at 2.00pm followed by the official opening of the new Dimboola Library at 3.00pm.

The Dimboola Bowling Club received funding of $163,500 through the Victorian Government’s 2020-2021 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund to upgrade their facilities. Upgrades have included a second synthetic green, improved shade structures and all-abilities access to the new green.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay said, “The facility upgrades to the Dimboola Bowling Club will have a positive effect on both the club and the sport of bowls in Dimboola”.

“The new facilities will reduce the time, effort and costs associated with maintaining turf greens. Maintenance has typically been carried out by club volunteers and now with two synthetic surfaces, club members will be able to spend more time practicing and playing” added Cr Ismay.

The total project costs for the Dimboola Bowling Club’s Facility Upgrades is approximately $250,000 which consists of funding of $163,500 from the Victorian Government, $30,000 from Hindmarsh Shire Council with the Dimboola Bowling Club contributing more than $50,000 of cash and in-kind support.

Hindmarsh Shire Council received funding of $600,000 through the Victorian Government’s 2016- 2017 Living Libraries Infrastructure Program to construct the new Dimboola Library and Customer Service Centre.

In line with modern libraries, the new modern building has been constructed and fitted out to enable it to be a multi-use, all-inclusive facility that includes public accessible computer terminals, a children’s reading section, seating, charging ports for laptops and phones as well as a broad range of literary services and programs.

Cr Ron Ismay said, “The new Dimboola Library and Customer Service Centre is a fantastic asset for Dimboola and will become the community’s go to hub for generations”.

“I have heard a lot of positive comments about the new Library and Customer Service Centre and with landscaping well underway as part of the Wimmera River Discovery Trail and the refurbishment of old Shire Hall to become the Community and Civic Hub, the whole area has revitalized the centre of Dimboola”.

The total cost of construction of the new Dimboola Library Customer Service Centre was just over $1.2 million with a contribution of $600,000 from the Victorian Government and the balance from Hindmarsh Shire Council.

Cr Ismay concluded, “I encourage anyone interested in either or both the Dimboola Bowling Club Facility Upgrade and the new Dimboola Library and Customer Service Centre to attend the official opening.”
