International Day of People with Disability Celebrations
Published on 22 November 2021
Hindmarsh Shire Council will be celebrating International Day of People with Disability with a community art project and free barbeque at the Dimboola Visitor Node on 3 December 2021 from 11am-2pm. This event is open to everyone in the community, and we encourage you to come along to meet some old friends and make some new ones!
International Day of People with Disability gives us an opportunity to celebrate, raise awareness and show acceptance and understanding towards 4.4 million Australians with disability. The theme in 2021 is ‘leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and post-COVID-19 world.’
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Melanie Albrecht said “The Hindmarsh Council is proud to be celebrating the day to raise awareness for people living with a disability. COVID-19 has been a challenging time for everyone, but those living with a disability, have faced additional hardships.”
Cr Albrecht added, “As we head towards a post-COVD-19 world, we encourage all groups and businesses to reflect on how they can ensure that people living with a disability can fully participate in our communities. Small changes can often make a big difference to accessibility. Come along and help celebrate the day.”
Wheelchair access is available from Lloyd Street and Old Weir Lane. If you have any concerns or questions about accessibility, please contact Hindmarsh Shire Council on 03 5391 4444.
