Hindmarsh Shire awards Round 2 Community Action Grants
Published on 12 March 2021
Hindmarsh Shire Council has announced the successful applications from round two of the community action grants for the 2020 / 2021 financial year.
The Community Action Grants program was established in 2013 to support community groups with funds to provide services, self-help and assistance with community development, social action and connectedness.
Hindmarsh Shire Council, Mayor Cr Ron Ismay said “it was a pleasure to see so many applications from community groups across the shire for this round of Community Action Grants. It is also pleasing to see our local community groups hosting public events once again, as reflected in this round’s applications. The shire is proud to support their events and encourages the community to show their support by attending.”
Council resolved to provide funding to nine community organisations totalling $10,758.
Dimboola Town Committee received funding of $500 for the annual Easter Eggstravaganza. The event has been held over a number of years and has always been very well attended and received by the local Dimboola community and visitors to Dimboola and district over the Easter break.
Yanac Public Hall received $400 to assist with costs associated with running the 2021 Yard Dog Trials in Yanac. The trials are expected to attract competitors from South Australia and New South Wales, as well as across Victoria.
Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre received $500 for their upcoming ‘Start Up Day’. The event will allow visitors to witness the Aviation Centre’s collection of vintage aircraft being started up.
Dimboola Arts Inc received $500 to assist with their opening event for the soon to be completed art space on the site of the old Dimboola Hotel. The newly founded group has been working to transform the site into a public art space to further boost Dimboola’s growing cultural vibrancy.
Jeparit Golf Club received $2,000 to build practice nets at the Jeparit Golf Club. The funding will cover the costs of materials for the project.
Dimboola Bowling Club received funding of $1,858 for the installation of new undercover seating. Dimboola Croquet Club received $2,000 to replace the front and side doors on their clubrooms.
Dimboola Sporting Club received funding of $2,000 for the installation of new netball safety wire and seats at the club’s change rooms.
The club has over 400 members and is an important part of the community. Rainbow Community Gym received funding of $1,000 for the purchase of a treadmill. The gym has 44 members, and is an important facility for the local community.
Cr Ismay added “On behalf of council I extend our congratulations to the successful applicants. Our community groups contribute greatly to the livability of our shire and it is exciting to support the worthwhile projects, events, and initiatives that these groups and organisations offer.”
A new round of Community Action Grants program will be announced at the start of the 2021/2022 Financial Year.
