Yurunga Homestead Veranda Restoration and Reopening
Published on 02 December 2020
During the COVID-19 lockdown period restricting operations of museums, Yurunga Homestead in Rainbow had its northern veranda restored. The veranda had been in disrepair for some time and had been closed from public access from the later part of 2019.
Hindmarsh Shire Council were successful in obtaining a grant from Heritage Victoria to restore the northern veranda. With the easing of restrictions allowing for the re-opening of indoor museums, Yurunga Homestead opened its doors to the public again on Sunday 15 November 2020. Visitors can now enjoy use of the northern veranda as part of the full experience offered by a tour of the Heritage Listed homestead.
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Ron Ismay said “Council thanks Heritage Victoria for their support in the much needed restoration work at Yurunga. It is great to see the homestead welcoming visitors again”.
Yurunga Homestead is open on Sundays from 2.00pm to 4.00pm or by appointment.
