Hindmarsh Shire Council, Yarriambiack Shire Council and Horsham Rural City Council are collaborating to bring the Wimmera Roll-In event to the Wimmera to help celebrate Victoria Youth Week 2020.

Wimmera Roll-In 2020 will consist of a series of skate, scooter and BMX clinics and competitions that will be hosted by professional skateboarder Renton Millar.

The Wimmera Roll-In 2020 is funded through a grant received from the Victoria Government Youth Week program and the three Councils.

After being postponed earlier this year due to coronavirus (COVID-19), the Victorian Youth Week 2020 will be held from 15 November to 15 December 2020.

As part of the Wimmera Roll-In 2020 activities a skateboard, scooter and BMX competition on Sunday 29 November at Horsham Skate Park from 1.00p.m - 5.00p.m.

Special skate clinics will be held at Rainbow P12 College and Jeparit Primary School on Monday 30 November while clinics in Yarriambiack Shire will be held on Tuesday 1 December.

Hindmarsh Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay expressed his appreciation on receiving funding from the Victorian Government and the great collaboration between the three Councils to make these events possible.

Cr Ismay said, “This is a great opportunity for young people from across the broader Wimmera Region to come together to experience the aspects and thrills of a competition but to also take advantage of a rare training opportunity to learn from a world class professional like Renton Millar”.

Since 2000, Renton Millar has competed all over the world and ended 2009 as the World Cup Vert Points Champion (taking World Cup Points from competitions in Rio de Janeiro, Shanghai, Rome, and Berlin). In 2012 Millar won the first Hurley ABC Contest (Australian Bowl Riding Championship), becoming the first inaugural Australian Bowl Riding Champion.

Cr Ismay added, “The skate clinics were originally planned to be experienced online due to the coronavirus restrictions; however, with the recent easing of restrictions young people will now be able to enjoy face to face clinics and to be involved in a live competition”.

For Gracie Hurlstone, Hindmarsh Shire North Ward Youth Councillor the prospect of having a clinic at her school with Renton Millar is one of the best things that will happen this year. Gracie said, “I think it is really important to host a Youth Week event at our school in Rainbow because then everyone is included. I am very grateful to be back at school, doing activities and being able to socialise once again”.

To take part in the competition the participants need to register online via https://form.jotform.com/203168177114856
