Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum Local History Grant and Reopening
Published on 02 December 2020
The Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum in Jeparit have been successful in obtaining a local history grant from the Victorian Government to assess the significance of their collection.
The museum holds one of the largest collections of vintage tractors in Victoria along with an extensive catalogue of other agriculture and household exhibits all from the local area. The museum is celebrating its 50th year of operation and is an important depository of local history. Developing a significance assessment of the collection was highlighted as a key part of the Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum Masterplan and will guide priorities for displays and restoration projects.
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Ron Ismay said “The Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum’s extensive collection is important to Jeparit and the local region. We look forward to assessing its broader significance and gaining a greater understanding of importance the collection holds in Victorian and Australian heritage”.
After being closed since March due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum reopened to the public on Friday 13 November. It is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10am to 3pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 4.30pm.
