Hindmarsh Shire Working for Victoria staff hit the ground running
Published on 01 July 2020
Hindmarsh Shire and Working for Victoria staff have hit the ground running, with most positions being filled.
Council received funding through the State Governments Working for Victoria initiative to provide 13 full time positions throughout the shire.
Staff have been employed across a variety of Council functions including town maintenance, outreach support, human resources administration and cleaning.
Working for Victoria employee, Sue Ahern said “Early on in lockdown I realised that my job opportunities were going to shrink rapidly, because of the effect the pandemic was having on the economy. Gaining this role under the Working for Victoria program has been a fantastic opportunity and big relief.”
Sue continued “I am enjoying my new role with Hindmarsh Shire Council, assisting to employ staff under the Working for Victoria Program.
Members of the community will have already seen Working for Victoria staff assisting Council’s Town Maintenance staff in Nhill and Rainbow.
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Rob Gersch said “Staff are currently focusing on our rose gardens in Nhill. Within a few days’ staff had pruned approximately 150 rose bushes.”
Cr Gersch continued “It is fantastic to see the new staff hit the ground running with excitement and enthusiasm for their new roles.”
“We thank the State Government for providing the funding to enable Council to employ the 13 new staff members.”
