Hindmarsh Annual Statutory Meeting 2020

Published on 19 November 2020

Hindmarsh Shire Council’s Annual Meeting, held on Wednesday 18 November 2020, was run a little differently this year due to COVID-19 restrictions and regulations. It was held at the Nhill Memorial Community Centre, and live streamed to Council’s Facebook page for members of the public to tune in from their homes.

At this meeting, we welcomed our new Councillors for the 2020-2024 term. We welcomed back past Councillors, Cr Debra Nelson, Cr Rob Gersch and Cr Ron Ismay and introduced two new Councillors, Cr Brett Ireland and Cr Melanie Albrecht. Each Councillor undertook an Oath of Office that was administered by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Greg Wood.

Mr Wood assumed the chair and conducted an election of Mayor for a one-year term. Cr Ismay was elected Mayor for the coming 12 months, in a two-way contest with Cr Nelson. Cr Albrecht was elected as Deputy Mayor unopposed.

Cr Ismay responded, saying “thank you Councillors and thank you for your support. I’m very much involved in the tourism side of things with Wimmera Mallee Tourism, and we’ve got some really good things going on, and I really believe that we’ve got a lot of businesses out there and hospitality industries that are hurting very badly, and we need to do the best we can to help them recover. Thank you Cr Gersch for your year as the Mayor, certainly things have been turned on their head, and you’re a very experienced Councillor. I certainly look forward to working with all of you over the next 12 months.”

Council also appointed delegates to Council advisory committees, community asset committees and external organisations.
