Community BBQs to celebrate 16 Days of Activism Campaign
Published on 07 December 2020
Hindmarsh Shire will celebrate the final day of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign with community BBQs in all four main towns of the shire.
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay, said “There has been some fairly powerful messages presented on our social media platforms throughout the campaign and to be able to hold community events to celebrate the last day of the campaign is a great outcome”.
The theme of this year’s campaign has been ‘Respect Is’ and messages of equality and respect have been highlighted across the state.
Cr Ismay said, “This has been a time to actively promote gender equality and take a stand to end violence against women and the messages I have seen certainly support that direction”.
With the support of funding received from Respect Victoria, Hindmarsh Shire has engaged community groups to host the BBQs on Thursday 10 December from 6.00pm until 8.00pm.
Details of each town’s BBQ are as follows;
Dimboola – Bicentennial Park (Train Park) hosted by the Dimboola Town Committee
Jeparit – Menzies Square hosted by the Jeparit Town Committee and MOPOKE
Nhill – Goldsworthy Park hosted by Hindmarsh Shire Council staff
Rainbow – Federal Street gardens BBQ hosted by Rainbow Neighborhood House and Rainbow Men’s Shed.
All 79 Victorian councils as well as 18 specialist non-government organisations have been involved in the statewide Respect Women: ‘Call It Out’ campaign. The Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria (DVRCV) and Victorian Council of Social Service (VCOSS) also collaborated with the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) who provide their expertise.
