New Dimboola Library Progresses

Published on 25 February 2019

Planning for the establishment of the new Dimboola Library is progressing well with tenders for the construction of the building closing on 20 February 2019.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay said he was excited about the new development, “Now that tenders have closed, Council can proceed with the assessment of the tenders and awarding of the contract to commence construction”.

Cr Ismay added “As Council was unsuccessful with a grant application through the Australian Government for additional funding we have had to amend the plans in order to still achieve our objective of establishing a multi-purpose facility”.

“It will still primarily be Dimboola’s public library and Council’s Customer Service Centre, but will be able to be utilised for many other events and activities”.

The construction of the new library is stage one of a multi staged plan that will ultimately see development of Dimboola’s Community Civic Hub.

Cr Ismay said “Stage one is the construction of the new Dimboola Library and Council Customer Service Centre which will be constructed at the rear of the existing library. The two building buildings will be connected via a passageway that will also feature new public work stations. A feature of the new library will be a rear deck and veranda that will be able to be used for community events such as on Australia Day”.

Stage one of works will be undertaken with funding obtained from the Victorian Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program and Hindmarsh Shire Council.

It is anticipated that the contract for construction of the library will be awarded at a March Council meeting with works commencing as soon as possible – potentially April / May 2019. Construction will take approximately 10 – 12 months.

The existing Dimboola Library and Council Customer Service Centre and public toilets will continue normal operations during the construction phase although there may be some days when services are disrupted.

Plans and artists images of the new Dimboola Library and Council Customer Service Centre are on display in the Dimboola Library and residents are encouraged to call in and view them.
