Community Action Grants Program Round 2 Open

Published on 16 January 2019

The second round of Hindmarsh Shire’s popular Community Action Grants Program is now open. The program, established in 2013 to provide financial support for local community organisations and sporting clubs, aims to promote community development, social action and connectedness throughout Hindmarsh Shire. There are four categories of funding for which groups can apply including Event Sponsorship, Small Equipment Grants, Minor Facility Upgrades and Community

Assistance. Hardcopies of the application form are available from the Shire Office in each town or applicants can submit an online application directly by visiting www.hindmarsh.vic.gov.au.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay explained “This is the second year that online applications have been available. They have proven to be very popular with almost half of the applications being completed online. For the less computer savvy, applicants are still able to submit hard copy applications via the Shire’s Customer Service Centres. These grants are a great opportunity for community groups who require financial assistance to complete new projects that address a community need, improve social connections or build community wellbeing”.

The Events Sponsorship category of the Community Action Grants is designed to assist community organisations to promote social connectedness and promote Hindmarsh as an “event destination” for visitors. This category offers grants of up to $500 to assist with events within Hindmarsh Shire which demonstrate social and economic benefit to the Hindmarsh community.

The Small Equipment category provides up to $1,000 to community based groups to assist with the cost of purchasing small equipment to benefit their organisation. Additionally, grants up to $2,000 are also available to assist groups with the cost of upgrading their community facilities through the Minor Facility Upgrades category.

Grants up to $1,000 are also available to assist groups with worthwhile projects under the Community Assistance category. This category is designed to help projects that might not meet the criteria of the other categories available within the Community Action Grant program.

Cr Ismay noted that “this is the last opportunity to secure a Community Action Grant for 2018/2019.” He also added a reminder for groups that received funding in the 2016/17 financial year, advising that “they are again eligible to apply for funding”.

Round 2 of the Community Action Grants Program will close at 5.00pm on Friday 1 March 2019.
