Cr Rosie Barker is a proud parent/grandparent to four adult children and three grandsons, with the unwavering support of her husband, Ross. It has been their pleasure to settle into Nhill since arriving over six years ago. Due to the nature of Ross’ career in the Hide Industry (Leather) across the world, they have lived in many different cities and countries. They chose to come to Nhill after much research as they saw the potential for the future of this region based on its rich historical successes.

With a background in social work and counselling, Cr Barker has dedicated her career to supporting and empowering individuals and families as it is her belief that good mental health creates great communities.

Hindmarsh Shire is a remarkable place, known for its rich history, agricultural heritage, recent cultural diversity and vibrant community spirit. The role that Nhill played during the World Wars, especially with the Nhill RAAF base, continues to offer strong tourism potential. The natural beauty of the lakes, the Little Desert, and walking trails reflects a hidden treasure that is ready to become a strong tourist attraction, creating diverse jobs and fresh interest for travellers when promoted well.

She believes our beautiful towns are charming, and their character offers visitors a glimpse into our community’s history and culture. She believes it is time to find a way to stop more traffic that are passing through Nhill, and for them to have a reason to stop and engage by promoting our current arts and crafts, cafes, and businesses, as well as encouraging new attractive business developments.

It is with these points in mind that Cr Barker decided to stand for Council, because she is passionate about enhancing Hindmarsh Shire’s potential by fostering tourism, supporting our amazing farmers and their investment in our region. The location of Nhill, between two capital cities, lends us to attracting industries, be they agricultural or transport related for example, which will foster economic growth and development, creating jobs for future generations. She wants to be a voice for our community, listening and understanding the concerns that others are experiencing.

During her four-year term in Hindmarsh Shire Council, Cr Barker plans to help enhance tourism, agricultural and economic development, sporting and other youth activities, as well as promote our amazing arts and crafts, and foster equity, fairness and wellbeing through strengthening community engagement.

Cr Barker is excited to work alongside her fellow councillors and the community to achieve these goals and make Hindmarsh Shire an even better place to live, work, and visit. She would like to thank the community for their support, and she looks forward to serving you the best that she can.
